PLAN AND DEVELOP PRE-PRODUCTION MATERIALS (U3: P3,M2)

MOODBOARD

My moodboard conveys the themes of the magazine. There are hearts to explicitly show the genre of the magazine being romantic comedy as the hearts represent love. The moodboard features photos of happy couples and popular rom-com films to identify the atmosphere of the magazine through the energy of happiness and love.

LAYOUTS

This hand drawn sketch conveys the overall idea of what the front page will look like and roughly what it includes, the front page will be very visual and bold to catch the eye of the readers with enticing cover lines providing a brief explanations of the internal articles, streaming platforms and puff quote to be visual appealing to the readers. The fonts will be bold to avoid the text being consumed by the vivid background, if it is vivid, to ensure the text is easy.

This hand drawn sketch of the double page spread exhibits the overall layout and structure of how the double page spread will look, it shows that there will be articles by critics and journalists, alongside a large image in the centre that will be linked to the front page to maintain consistency throughout to keep the structure of the magazine clear.

FONT IDEAS

coverlines:

Article font:

These are font ideas that i found to try and portray a simple and classy aesthetic for the magazine because i believe that class and simplicity is vital within the rom-com genre as they are examined in films quite frequently such as high class women enduring in love such as: 'sex in the city', a rom-com film that is world renowned therefore i wanted the aspects of the films to be presented within the magazine and i think that having these fonts and fonts similar to these will help to convey that. I also ensured that the fonts i choose are easy to read especially when taking printing into account as digital mock-ups may look different to the printed version, the readers need to be able to read the text fluently without any confusion thus why i chose these fonts as ideas.

COLOUR SCHEMES

I chose this colour palette as i believe that reds and pinks are almost always associated with love and featured within rom-com films such as red roses or a pink box of chocolates, these colours are very conventional of love and films about love which is why i will be implementing them in the magazine to fully immerse the rom-com genre within the magazine. I will also be implementing black into the magazine as i think that black is considered quite a sensual colour, alongside red, and sensuality is very reflective of the rom-com genre and lust, the Masthead of my magazine, therefore the black and red will mirror the meaning behind the Masthead and the message of love and lust the magazine is executing. When creating the magazine and taking photos for the front cover and double page spread i will ensure to include these colours within to maximise the effect of the rom-com genre on the readers- i will also be using these colours for text alongside to keep the colours and genre consistent.

LEGAL AND ETHICAL ISSUES

Legal issues:
  • Copyright laws
  • Data Protection act
  • Intellectual Property law

Ethical issues:
  • Invasion of privacy
  • inappropriate content
  • clickbait

How the legal and ethical issues can be avoided/resolved:

Legal

The Data Protection act can be resolved by simply ensuring that all personal data received from the readers and models/actors is protected such as the encryption of personal bank details from the online readers when subscribing to the magazine and ensuring all data we collect from the models and actors who signed consent forms for photographs and interviews are filed away securely.

Copyright laws can be resolved by gaining permission from the copyright owner of the video or picture in question, for example i will need to gain permission from whoever owns the rights to the secondary interview that will be implemented into the content of the magazine to ensure i do not use their video without their permission or consent.

The intellectual property law can be resolved is by obtaining an appropriate license from the copyright owners, similar to copyright laws- i will need to gain the rights to use the trademarks used in the magazine for example,  the netflix logo, FilmRUs logo and any other secondary branding i will be using.

Ethical

Invasion of privacy can be avoided by simply not asking invasive questions within interviews. The journalist or interviewer must refrain from asking the actor/director any questions to do with their personal life and details because this may result in the actor/director becoming uncomfortable and thus not wanting to further the interview or become more restricted with what they say- this would stunt the potential to work with the interviewee in the future as the magazine would be a result of their discomfort.

Although the magazine is targeted towards a mature audience being 18-35, the magazine will still be public meaning there will be younger audiences being exposed to it therefore the content(especially the front cover) need to be appropriate for all ages, as parents would not be amused by their children being exposed to sexual or inappropriate content on the front cover of the magazine.

Clickbait is an ethical issue that can be avoided by not having content on the front cover that won't be implemented inside the magazine for example, the content within the cover lines such as enticing article titles or article quotes only to gravitate people to buy and read the magazine. All of the magazine's cover lines will be truthful as well as tempting and interesting to ensure the magazine does not give audiences false hope.
