CREATE A PROPOSAL AND PITCH FOR A MEDIA PRODUCT (P1, P2, M1, U3 & P2, U21)

PURPOSE

One purpose of the film magazine is to entertain and entice, For example, readers use magazines for a way to escape from reality and i'd like for my proposed magazine to emulate this effect as people take comfort from things they can get lost in and forget about the hardships of life. The magazine will also be a source of entertainment as said above, this will be provided through interesting articles and interviews with directors and actors, which acts as our USP, about the rom-com scene and films within, the films will be newly released, this will include independent new releases as well as mainstream to inform the audience about indie films with reviews attached to inform our audience about the quality of the films and different perceptions on the featured films and perspectives to educate readers on other people's and journalist's views on specific rom-com films. The main purpose and goal of the magazine is to generate large amounts of Revenue, be successful and be sold across North London, another purpose of the magazine is to help to promote independent films and film creators to elevate their work and films.

FORM AND GENRE

The genre of the magazine is a Film magazine, specifically romantic comedy(genre based) magazine. I have chosen this genre as i am aware of the popularity that appeals to women and teenage girls, being the primary target audience, within North London meaning that the success of the magazine is probable and hopeful, this genre also allows for creative mobility for the type of content in the magazine to capture the audience such as articles and interviews with actors from rom-com films. This magazine will be in the form of a physical version that readers can buy in shops such as supermarkets and newsagents, which will have 30-50 pages, as well as well as digital versions of the magazine on the website with two subscription options for long term readers, the physical version of the magazine will be £2.50 each as i think this is a reasonable price as the magazine will also reach a younger demographic being teenagers therefore the price needs to be attainable, however the online copy will be a subscription of a 6 month plan, being £35 for the full 6 months or 12 month plan for £50 for the full year, as this will be cheaper than paying for the magazine every month it is out as each digital version will be £8.50 - there will also be an offer for a student discount of 10% to appeal to the teenage demographic. The subscribers will also be paying via direct debit every month with the 6 month plan being £5.80 a month and the annual plan being £4.20 per month- attractive prices for the target audiences to gain readers and subscribers.

CONTENT

This magazine will include a wide range of content. There will be a featured Romantic Comedy movie on the front cover with bright and vibrant colours and that will be the main focus throughout sections of the magazine for example, there will be interviews with actors from rom-com films including the featured film, primary and secondary resources, to invite the audience into the rom-com scene and their lives from their favourite actors and directors, this will be followed by columns to explain the storyline similar to a book blurb about the movie and allow the readers to get an overview of the movie without spoilers. The movies promoted will be a mix between venue and indie films to educate the readers on indie rom-coms also and help to promote small creators. Within the magazine there will also be reviews about recent releases as well as the featured one to grasp a wide variety of different opinions and perspectives. The font styles will be sophisticated and cursive as i believe this best suits the rom-com genre. I am aiming to have the colours of the magazine mirror the rom-com genre being: pinks, whites and reds to further interest readers and allow them to fully immerse in the magazine, as well as a double page spread about either an indie rom-com film or a blockbuster film for catch the eye of the reader especially the younger audience as i think they would respond better to a visual presentation of information with articles and reviews attached. Within the magazine there will also be promotions of new releases within the independent film category to support indie films and indie companies, alongside the promotion of and references to streaming platforms popular and new such as Netflix and FilmRus, a new streaming platform.

TARGET AUDIENCE

My target audience will mainly women from the teenage years onwards as i have realised more women than men are interested in the rom-com genre, this will be my primary audience. However, my secondary audience will be men and everyone else interested as i would like to gain as many audience members i can and not limit my options. There will also be a geo-demographic of North London as there are many films out in this area in cinemas and production houses therefore giving me content for the magazine for my audience's entertainments- there is also no set ethnicity, race or class , the magazine is targeted and welcome to everyone.

RESOURCES AND PERSONNEL

For my resources i will require a camera so the photographer doesn't have to bring one , this will be for photos of locations such as popular cinema venues and productions houses that promote rom-com films, also i will need the camera to take photos of actors, mainly indie actors as they would be lower budget and much more attainable to work with; i will be adding photos of actors as this is also a way to promote them personally and their rom-com films - i will be imbedding photos in the magazine as i believe readers will respond better to visual things and will catch the reader's eye. I will also be needing camera equipment such as a tripod and a variety of camera lenses to obtain a wide range of angles and shot types, possibly some props for more expressive photos and sufficient lighting to achieve the best quality photos. For personnel, i will need a photographer to take professional pictures, an editor to edit the photos and videos for the online versions or if this is too expensive, a licence for Adobe Photoshop as an alternative, i will also need actors as models for the magazine content, a researcher to identify any ethical issues or legal issues that we will need to face, a web designer to create the website for the online versions of the magazine and journalists to write columns for the magazine and conduct interviews to intrigue readers.

DISTRIBUTION AND MARKETING

I will do a lot of advertising via social media due to the influx in users and female users specifically, this will especially be effective for the online version of the film magazine as a link to the magazine website will be able to be implemented within the advertisements, i believe that i will be able to reach a wide variety of readers through promoting the magazine on public facebook reader group chats and magazine group chats as that will be reaching the desired target market and Instagram and TikTok ads on the public feed as this will be a visual pop up to intrigue and catch the eye of the younger target audience as these are their main platforms, another form of marketing will be on streaming platforms such as Netflix and Amazon Prime which will also be promoted within the magazine, and also a new streaming Platform: FilmRS to promote the magazine and promote the new platform. Additionally, the magazine will be advertised at popular film festivals across london to be able to reach the desired target market. Desirably i would like the magazine to the distributed across North London for the first two editions and range out to the rest of London every two months throughout the year therefore i am able to stay up to date with new Rom-com films, both indie and blockbuster, and therefore not become out of date. This will also allow the magazine to grow as readers will become familiar with the magazine to help achieve an increase in consumers.

ARTICLE IDEAS

The articles will be about romantic comedy and why it is good and entertaining for example, there will entertaining columbs regarding the rom-com scene with references to popular rom-com films to allow the article to resonate with the readers. Interviews with actors and directors will also be implemented from secondary resources as well as primary- the primary interviews will most likely be with indie film directors or actors as they will be more attainable, whereas with the secondary interviews, there will be the conversation in speech bubbles to visually engage the readers however i will also include a QR code that readers will be able to scan to watch the interview online if they wish. Reviews of the featured film and other new releases will be incorporated to allow the readers to widen their knowledge to other perspectives of the rom-com films that are new to the scene or is our featured film for that edition, followed by articles by film critics about the same films to grasp a professional and passionate point of view.

Some Magazines i may be in competition with include as they are also film magazines however do not offer the same genre of magazine that my proposed magazine does:
