Meeting the client brief (U3: P5, M4, D1)

Learning Outcome 4 (U3): Be able to carry out post-production techniques and processes for an original media product to a client brief.

MEETING THE CLIENT BRIEF (U3:P5, M4, D1)

The front cover and double page have both been exported as JPEG from photoshop to meet the requirements of the client brief:

HOW THE MAGAZINE MEETS THE CLIENT BRIEF

Film Magazine in North London

On the front cover it is clearly stated that the magazine is North London based, underneath the Masthead and that the magazine contains interviews with North London actors, shown in the coverline to ensure we are targeting the correct audience demographic and all the local rom-com fans and enthusiasts.

Reference to a Current and new streaming platform

Within both production pieces i have referenced to the current and new streaming platform. Classified on the front cover in the bottom left corner, the current streaming platform Netflix is stated and on the double page spread there is a comment placed to the left of the QR code expressing the film can be viewed on the new streaming platform 'FilmRuS'.

Promote a new film release

I successfully met this requirement as the focal point of the magazine is the promotion of a new indie film release 'FRANKLY IN LOVE' which is references multiple times within both production pieces alongside the promotion of an indie actor 'Georgia Matthews'. In the bottom left of the front cover the link to the website is conveyed, when readers tap the link (if on the digital version) or type the link into the web it will direct them to the website where the trailer for the film will be promoted to ensure maximun exposure to the new indie film.

Promote at popular film festivals across all of London

Within the link to the magazine on the front cover it will show on the website how the magazine intends on being promoted at film festivals across London to ensure maximum exposure for when mass distribution occurs.

Local distribution initially and encouragement for wider mass distribution

As seen on the magazine's front cover the distribution will remain local for the time being to create a loyal, local following and when the magazine is increasingly successful and popular within North London the distribution as well as marketing will expand to a wider mass of London.

HOW THE PHOTOSHOP TOOLS HELP ME

HOW I USED PHOTOSHOP TOOLS FOR THE FRONT COVER

The horizontal Type tool:

The horizontal type tool was a fundamental part of the process to create the production pieces because it allowed me to express the text that was nas needed for each such as the coverlines, Masthead, the body copy and additions such as the website in the left hand, bottom corner of the front cover. This tool also had an option to add my own font which was extremely important as i needed to convey the type of aesthetic i thought is the best fit for the rom-com genre.

The Horizontal type tool having this feature allowed me to import an external font to photoshop in order for me to create the effect i wanted to portray on the front cover, this was very helpful because i was able to choose the font i wanted that i thought would be the easiest for the target audience to read and the fonts that are visually appealing instead of standard fonts.

Below conveys my process of using the horizontal type tool for my masthead which created meaning by allowing the softness of the rom-com genre to shine through the masthead and the font for it:

The colour library:

The colour library really helped to execute the perfect shades of the colours i needed to ensure the best and most suitable colour was chosen in order to infuse the rom-com genre into the front cover. The tool allowed me to be able to choose the best shades of pink and red to capture the essence of love and a theme and the rom-com genre. Therefore this tool really aided me in conveying the rom-com genre as deeply as possible to allow the readers to fully immerse themselves in the magazine. This tool also added meaning through allowing the name of the primary actor to stand out to ensure she is a focal point, the change is displayed below:

Dodge tool:

I also used the dodge tool within both my front cover and double page spread which allowed me to brighten the white T-shirt the model was wearing and her white shoes as they were off white and that wasn't the image i was looking to create thereofre the dodge tool created meaning for my front cover as it allowed me to create my desired look in order for the production piece to exhibit a happy atmosphere presented to the target audience as the white emulates themes of happiness and purity, a theme within rom-coms. Thus making this tool very meaningful as it was able to enhance the background to suit the genre and atmosphere.

Below exhibits how the dodge tool changed the colour of the shoes as you an see the contrast between the two shoes :

HOW I USED PHOTOSHOP TOOLS FOR THE DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD

Clone stamp tool:

I used this tool to erase the writing that was on the book (prop) the model is holding to keep the focal point which is the title 'frankly in love' as that is the movie promoted within the magazine, the before and after can be seen below. Therefore the clone stamp tool created meaning for my double page spread as it enabled me to enhance the focus of the magazine which is the newly released film, therefore by the book purely displaying the film title it truly it promoted it to the maximum.

Before:

After:

Horizontal Type tool:

I used the Horizontal type tool within my double page spread as it enable me to create the body copy, the process is shown below:

This tool created meaning for my double page spread as it allowed me to express all of the text that was required for the content such as the heading and body copy, especially the body copy as this is the primary mode of entertainment within the double page spread thus meaning that the horizontal tool mad eit possible for me to convey the entertainment for the target audience.

The colour libary:

The colour library was a crucial part for my double page spread as the rom-com genre colour palette is quite distinctive however the colour library allowed me to express the genre through deciphering the correct colours to represent the genre specifically the red as the pink was made and chosen through another photoshop tool, below exposes how i used the colour library for the Title of the double page spread the (Love) and how the tool enabled me to highlight the rom-com elements of love and lust through the colours usually associated with these themes:

This process clearly states the change in tone cause by the red of the 'Love' as the shade of deep red reflects the word and the connotations within the word 'love' therefore, the colour library was the tool that enabled me to fully portray that, making it a very meaningful tool to the process

Eyedropper tool:

I used the eyedropper tool to ensure the colour palette was coherent and linear to avoid the double page spread looking messy or unorganised. This tool created meaning for the double page spread because it allowed me to sample the pink from the words written on the book and mirror that in the 'FRANKLY' part of the title, the process is conveyed below:

Th eyedropper tool was fundamental for the process of creating the colour palette for the double page spread as it portrayed the rom-com genre perfectly as the writing on the book were the perfect colours to express the colours associated with rom-rom films/genre.
